The Capas National Shrine is located in Barangay Navy, Capas, Tarlac, Philippines. It was built by the Philippine government in memory of Second World War allied soldiers who died at Camp O’Donnell at the end of the Bataan Death March.

The site is the spotlight for honoring and remembering an annual observance held on 9 April—Araw ng Kagitingan (Valour Day). It is the centenary of the capitulation of US and Philippine forces to the Imperial Japan in 1942.

The structure is so magnificent, you can hear the whisper of the other person on the opposite side of the circular wall that surrounds the obelisk.

This 70-meter monument is surrounded by a three-segmented, black marble wall engraved with the names of the Filipinos known to have died during the Death March. There are also statistics about the total numbers of prisoners and deaths, together with poems for peace (source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capas_National_Shrine)

The best part of being on shrines like this is that you get reminded on how other people sacrificed for the sake of their love ones and their country. I admire them for knowing what they’ve fought for. I am inspired by them for believing that there is hope in what they do.

You and I also face battles (it may not be the battle that these noble man died for) but sometimes, it is an inner war. It is a war whether to become a good student or not, it is a fight whether to become a loving child to his/her parents or not, it is a combat on whether to be an understanding husband/wife or not, it is a clash on whether to be a caring friend or not–most of the time.

Let us bear in mind that God died on the cross, faced the battle of humanity and succeeded because of His great love for everyone even though we are undeserved because of our sins. Let’s pray that we be like Jesus to everybody in love.

May you receive your blessings,

Tintin
